The Black Crowes w/Gov’t Mule – Las Vegas 1996

The Black Crowes – Live at The Joint, Las Vegas, NV – December 15, 1996

Here’s a show I dug up recently that’s been in my collection for many years and it’s an exceptional one. The Black Crowes on the final night of their 1996 Fall tour promoting ‘Three Snakes & One Charm.’ Their opening act on that tour was Gov’t Mule – the exceptional power trio featuring then-current Allman Brothers members Warren Haynes (guitar) and Allen Woody (bass and mandolin) as well as drummer Matt Abts. One can sense the boys wanted to go out with a bang and their set here is heavy on some prime covers. Among them a rollicking ‘Jailhouse Rock’, a fine cover of ‘Feelin’ Alright’, The Allman Brothers’ ‘Dreams’ (featuring some searing slide work from Warren Haynes), Ry Cooder’s ‘Boomer’s Story’ (featuring Allen Woody on mandolin) and a triple Stones encore to finish off the show in a blaze of glory.

This recording is a well mixed soundboard and is sure to please any fan of The Crowes, The Mule, Stones or Allmans.
