BILLY JOEL – VARIOUS USA DATES FROM ‘GLASS HOUSES’ TOUR – SUMMER 1980
Thought I’d post a couple sows today from two of the most popular piano men ever to take the stage. The first comes from a studio prep tape of Billy Joel’s planned (but never released) double live album from 1980. He had just released and was touring behind his excellent (and some say his last truly great album) Glass Houses. The tour consisted of arena shows but also several surprise club shows, allowing Billy to get back to his roots and play for more intimate audiences. The original idea was to release a double live album featuring then recent hits and older album tracks from his largely overlooked early releases. Ultimately though it was decided to issue a singe album featuring only the early and somewhat obscure songs with the newer ones scrapped. This turned out to be the also excellent Songs In The Attic album in 1981.
Here, from a reference tape, we have the full double album as it was originally planned and it is a real treat even for those who are only marginal fans of Billy Joel. You can even hear the recording engineer calling out the recording location and date reference before the music starts on some tracks, giving this a real behind the scenes feel.
