It was 5 years until D’Angelo followed up his debut album, Brown Sugar, with his sophomore effort, Voodoo. Steeped in funk and vibes much darker than his debut, Voodoo showed D’Angelo’s tremendous growth as an artist. He then put together The Soultronics, an ace backing band including Questlove from The Roots on drums and Pino Palladino on bass. It’s these two who propel the rhythms in this show to stratospheric heights but it’s D’Angelo who brings it all together and sends the crowd reeling into funk/soul heaven.
If you like P-Funk, Sly Stone, The Roots or Erykah Badu, check out this show. You won’t be disappointed.
