The Grateful Dead – Live in Kansas City, MO & Iowa City, IA – August 3 & 10, 1982
One of my favorite qualities about the Grateful Dead were their tendency to reshape their sound and improvisational approach slightly from year to year. The wealth of available recordings of their live shows prove that even a seemingly slight adjustment in repertoire, arrangements or instrumentation could breathe new life into their music.
1982 found the band leaning toward simple, more straight ahead rock approach than previous years. The entire year is full of fantastic shows and I was torn as to which one to post. I decided on what I consider to be the twin peaks of the Summer tour, recorded in Kansas City, MO on 8/3 and Iowa City on 8/10. I’ve had these both on tape for almost 20 years and they remain among my favorites. There are only a few repeats between the more than 40 songs played between these two shows.
Enjoy a double dose of the good ‘ole Grateful Dead at their rocking best!

really good site, am enjoying surfing thru it. FWIW – the photo used for the Grateful Dead Mid-West August ’82 tour, that’s my own photo I took at the first Ventura show (July ’82). Nice to see it get used. – UrbanSurfer
