Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes – Live at Jones Beach Amphitheatre, Wantagh, NY – July 10, 2000

In early 2000, the newly formed website featured two new online releases featuring The Who (the excellent ‘The Blues To The Bush‘ collection) and another featuring  Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes roaring through a set of Zep classics in concert.

The album, Live At The Greek, was so successful, Page and The Crowes joined forces that summer (along with The Who) for a tour of the American Northeast. This recording comes from the NY stop on the tour and rips from start to finish!

Revisiting 3 classic Galactic & Greyboy Allstars danceathon, peak performances from 1997 (Links Inside – Don’t Miss!)

Both Galactic and The Greyboy Allstars grooved hard on on stage when they were rolled into town, which in the Northeast was fortunately often. I was actually in the audience when a young Galactic opened for Medeski, Martin & Wood at Tipitina’s in 1996 and really caught on to the urgency in Rich Vogel’s organ laing. I bought a copy of ‘Coolin’ Off (still a fantastic album) after the show. A friend’s sister recommended The Greyboy Allstars to me that next following summer. The whole band was solid but I quickly feel in love with Karl Denson’s expressive sax playing. He’s one of my absolute favorite players of the instrument.

This is just really, really good, fun music, and great to dance to! Performance, mix and quality are all balanced and even. Listening to these this weekend really took me back to Tipitina’s NOLA and Club Toast in VT.

DIG IT! All shows included in one file!

Jerry Garcia & David Grisman – Live at the Warfield Theatre, San Francisco, CA – May 1992

This tape is a mix tape of the five night Garcia/Grisman run (5/7 – 5/11). The tape was given to David Gans by David Grisman for Gan’s Grateful Dead Hour program. The tape was subsequently stolen from Gans and put into circulation. Garcia’s voice had aged at this point and was so well suited to this type of material, perhaps even more to that of the electric Dead sets of the ’90s.

Chris Hillman, Bernie Leadon & Al Perkins – Rockefeller’s, Houston, TX – January 12, 1984

Here we have a Byrd (Hillman), an Eagle (Leadon) and steel/slide extraordinaire, Al Perkins (Manassas, Souther-Hillman-Furay) running through a wonderful acoustic set filled with Dylan, Gram Parsons, Hillman and Leadon songs. If you like Bluegrass, alt-Country, or Gospel with fine harmonies and acoustic picking (think Garcia/Grisman or New Riders Of The Purple Sage), then grab this show.

Bob Weir & Rob Wasserman – Sheraton Ballroom, Steamboat Springs, CO – May 23, 1990

Here’s another nice soundboard recording of two nice acoustic sets from Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman. Rob Wasserman handled the bass duties in Ratdog, Weir’s project after The Grateful Dead stopped touring in the ’90s. However, you can really appreciate his loping bass runs on this recording as well as Weir’s fine vocals and song choices. Even if you’re not a Deadhead, you’ll probably like this.
