The Police – The Summit, Houston, TX – March 20, 1982

Here’s a fun show I received recently in a trade. The Police recorded during their ‘Ghost In The Machine’ tour in 1982. They brought along a horn section on this jaunt. Somewhat surprisingly, the horns add some nice hits and a few solo highlights. One of the better live Police shows I’ve heard.

Aretha’s final show with King Curtis and the Memphis Horns is a smoker and was fortunately captured by an FM station for broadcast. This 70 minute set is a fine companion to her ‘Live At The Fillmore’ album with the same band and features some rare cuts not found on that session. A truly inspiring performance captured in fantastic sound, particularly for the era in which it was recorded. Do not pass this up!

The Roling Stones Unreleased 1972 Live Album

The Rolling Stones Unreleased 1972 Live Album

Stones

This era of the Stones holds a special place for me as ‘Sticky Fingers’ and ‘Exile On Main Street’ were two of the first albums I ever purchased with my own spending money. When the band hit the road in North America in 1972, they came out guns a blazing every night and packed their performances with songs from these two albums. Rumor has it that this tape was obtained from an associate of the band who was mixing the tracks for a live album. Unfortunately, that album never saw the light of day. Too bad, as these are some of the finest performances the band ever gave. Mick Taylor on lead guitar really brought the band to another level in concert and that is abundantly clear upon listening to these tracks!

Legion Of Mary – 1975 Northeast US Tour (“Mystery Tape)

Legion Of Mary – Mystery Tape (Northeast US Tour ’75)

Legion

For my first share, I’m uploading a live Legion Of Mary compilation given to me by a coworker on casette in 1995. At that time, I was a Deadhead but not as familiar with the side projects of Jerry Garcia. He insisted this one was sure to please!

The tape I received was many generations old and just barely audible but my friends and I listened religiously during our senior year in high school. The lineup included Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Merl Saunders on organ and vocals, John Kahn on bass, Martin Fierro on woodwinds and Ron Tutt on drums. They move through everything from blues to jazz to funk to Dylan covers.

I’ve since managed to reconstruct this collection of tunes from much cleaner sources thanks to Etree. While this compilation comes from several stops on the April 1975 tour, it’s still the best example of this fine band and the one I reach for to this day when I crave some Legion Of Mary. Enjoy!
